Samsung announced seventy apps would be ready for the Galaxy Gear before the end of September, with 12 available at launch. Snapchat will be one of the seventy coming soon, but in a different form and name: Snapchat Micro.
Snapchat Micro will function similar to the Android/iOS app and will allow users to quickly snap a photo on the 1.9MP Galaxy Gear camera and send it to friends for a limited time.
The user will be able to capture, set a timer, edit and send the image to different friends. Editing is simple, users will be able to add drawings on the watch, but captions will need to be done of the smartphone, it seems the screen is too small for a keyboard.
With the Galaxy Gear pairing to either the Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Note 10.1, if the user clicks to add a caption it will immediately open the app on the smartphone and allow the user to add the caption on the phone and finish the job.
Snapchat Micro is an odd app to add onto the Galaxy Gear, but Samsung is not exactly looking for dedicated smartwatch apps. With eBay, Path and LINE all coming to the Galaxy Gear, it looks like the smartwatch will have little difference from a smartphone, apart from the screen size.
