Qualcomm Announces Toq Smartwatch Featuring Mirasol Display

We all know Qualcomm as the company that makes processors that are used by a lot of Android smartphones and tablets today. The company however has another less known technology in store which could potentially become popular. This is the Mirasol sunlight readable display which it has been trying to bring into the market.

The company’s recent announcement of their upcoming smartwatch model called the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch might make the Mirasol display a hit among consumers. This Qualcomm branded smartwatch is expected to hit the market by the fourth quarter of this year.

During  Qualcomm’s Uplinq 2013 Developer Conference Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of Qualcomm said that “Toq’s always on, always connected, always visible wearable technology gives you a ‘Digital 6th Sense,’ telling you what you need to know, when you need to know it, with just a glance at your wrist or a whisper in your ear. Toq is a showcase for the benefits of the Mirasol display, WiPower LE and stereo Bluetooth technologies and highlights the experience that the wearable category can provide. Toq not only represents a long history of technological innovation for Qualcomm, but it also demonstrates our commitment to delivering the breakthrough technologies that redefine the ways we interact with each other and the world around us.”

Qualcomm Toq Smartwatch Key Features

  • Qualcomm Mirasol display technology – Reflective, low-power display that enables an always on viewing experience.
  • Qualcomm WiPower LE technology – Allows the device to be wirelessly charged
  • True stereo Bluetooth audio experience

Toq can be easily paired with any Android or iOS device using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Unlike other smartwatch models that need to be recharged every night this model has a 3-5 day battery life due to its use of a low-power screen that’s viewable even under direct sunlight.   Managing smartphone calls, text messages, meeting reminders and other notifications can all be done on the wrist.

The “Premium Audio Edition” of this device comes with the first truly wireless stereo headphones. This means that you won’t need any wires for your headset when listening to your favorite songs. This edition has a high quality audio sound due to its use of a dedicated tweeter and woofer.
