Acer DA241HL AIO desktop arrives

The Acer DA241HL All-In-One Android desktop is a testament to how the operating system is moving from mobile devices to PCs. This device, which Acer recently unveiled in Berlin, Germany, is one of the first desktop PCs to offer the Android OS. In particular, the device comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, one of the latest updates to the operating system. The device also features an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, a processor which is more commonly found on tablets than on PCs.

According to Acer, this combination of Android OS plus the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor will provide consumers with a user experience similar to what mobile devices offer. The difference is that this device comes with a massive 24-inch display that can be used alone as a Android-based desktop PC, or as a monitor. Such display boasts of a 20 to 75 degree tilting angle.

As an Android device, the Acer DA241HL supports the huge amount of apps available on Google Play. Acer underscores that gaming as well as the use of other Google Play features are optimized because the device packs a Tegra 3 processor. CNET, however, points out that plenty of the apps available on Google Play may not necessarily look good on the huge display, since many of them are made for smaller screens. The All-In-One device furthermore allows for the creation of up to five user profiles, in which users can customize settings according to their own preferences.
Consumers, however, can opt to use the Acer DA241HL as a monitor for a Windows 8 device in case they don’t want to use Android. To do this, they can simply connect the Acer DA241HL to a device running on Windows 8 through a USB or HDMI cable. Using the AIO as a monitor still allows the user to enjoy touchscreen functions.

Meanwhile, an MHL cable will enable the user to connect the Acer DA241HL to an Android device, converting the All-In-One Android desktop into a monitor for games or movies.

Along with the Acer DA241HL All-In-One Android desktop, the manufacturer also unveiled other All-in-Ones, including the Aspire U5-610, Aspire Z3-105, and Aspire Z3-610. Acer will begin selling the Acer DA241HL in Europe by mid-October for the price of €429. The other aforementioned All-in-Ones will hit the market between December to January.
