While we have already published a few articles addressing email issues owners have experienced with their Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the one I will present in this post is somewhat rare. More often, the problem happens with personalized or corporate emails. Addresses like Gmail, Live, Yahoo! Mail, etc. are stable enough to have their users encounter this problem.
Personally, I have encountered this problem once before so I know what caused it. But before anything else, here is the email message from one of our readers.
I am hoping you can help me. I have AT & T as a service provider and just purchased the Samsung Note II. My email is thru Microsoft Outlook. I had setup my email originally and it was working fine until yesterday. Now there is an error that comes up when I try to sync the email account that states “cannot locate server”. I talked with both At & T and Samsung and we have tried deleting and resetting up the email account, turning off the phone and removing battery. Both of them checked my phone settings, which were fine. I am able to bring up the internet on my phone.
Have you heard of this problem and do you know of any solutions?

The procedure I will present here is based on the probable causes I mentioned above.
Step 1: Verify you have an internet connection.
More often, when there is no internet connection, the first thing that would be affected is the synchronization of data; emails won’t push through, contacts saved on the cloud displays ‘unknown’ numbers, etc.
There is also a possibility that the email client you’re using will return a ‘cannot locate server’ error because, basically, the server cannot be reached.
Verifying you have an internet connection is essential to solving this problem. Try to browse a website to see if you can, otherwise, troubleshoot your internet connection first.
Step 2: Check your servers
Perhaps, the servers that host your email are down. When this happens, it could be that the client you’re using will take a long time to load new emails or will return an error. Basically, what an email client does is pull down email data from the servers, when they’re down, all data couldn’t be accessed and problems occur, albeit minor.
For down servers, it would take just a few hours at most before the problem will be resolved, so it’s worth to wait without messing up the settings in your device. In fact, a 24-hour margin should be given if you were able to confirm the cause of the problem was the servers. When that time elapsed with the email service not resumed, call your webhost.
Step 3: Domain name problem
Upon calling your webhost, ask about your domain name as well (if you purchased it with your hosting plan), otherwise, check with your registrar. When a domain expires, it would cease to point to your webhost and 90 percent of the time, the ‘cannot locate server’ error will pop up. Do what is necessary to have the domain problem solved.
Basically, these steps are a bit advanced for an average user. The best thing to do if you don’t want to follow this procedure is make sure you have the correct credentials (i.e. username and password), you have an internet connection, and have setup your email properly.
