NVIDIA Shield Update 59 Moves Apps To SD Card And More

The NVIDIA Shield portable gaming device which was officially released last month got its second software update released right now. The update contains various enhancements and bug fixes aimed at improving the overall player experience.

The changes brought by the update are as follows

  • Ability to move select app and game program (APK) files from SHIELD internal storage to the microSD card.
  • Improved Miracast streaming with Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro (requires ScreenBeam firmware release or higher).
  • Improved PC streaming stability, gamepad detection, and Wi–Fi performance
  • Support for Tegra developer tools: CPU sampling profiler (Tegra Profiler) and GPU analysis (PerfHUD ES)

If you own the device you can update it by going to Settings → About SHIELD → System updates.

One of the important features brought by this update is the ability to move apps and games to the microSD. While this feature may be available for almost all Android devices it wasn’t made available initially for the Shield. Those who own lots of games can immediately fill up the 16 GB internal storage of the device and with games such as Bards Tale or Asphalt 8 this can happen really quickly.

To move an entire game to the microSD a user simply has to go to Settings > Apps > Select App > Move to SD card. This frees up the internal storage.

Another notable feature of this update is the improved PC streaming experience. The improvements made are in streaming, gamepad detection, and overall Wi-Fi performance. More PC games are also now being supported bringing the list up to 31.
