Jean Baptiste Queru quits AOSP over Nexus 7 issues

aosp nexus 7

According to a post from Jean Baptiste Queru (JBQ), the head of AOSP, there’s still no arrival date for the factory images of Android 4.3 for the new Nexus 7. There seems to be some issues from Qualcomm which isn’t allowing the AOSP team to post factory images for the new Nexus 7 also known as ‘Flo’. Subsequently, Queru wrote a post on Google+ announcing that he’s quitting AOSP.

Readers must be reminded that similar issues were seen when the Nexus 4 was launched in late 2012, but factory images were made available after some time. However, JBQ’s statement makes us wonder if there ever will be a factory image posted for the new Nexus 7. The issue apparently stems from the Adreno GPUs used in Qualcomm made chipsets. It is believed that Qualcomm is hesitant to allow access to the GPU to the developers, which in turn is causing this delay. Let’s hope the issues are resolved soon so that factory images of Android 4.3 for the new Nexus 7 can be posted online for the users.
