Are you planning to upgrade or just sell your Samsung Galaxy S3?
Easy as it may sound but there are a lot of things you should do before you actually give your phone away or sell it to anyone. The primary reason why you need to spend enough time backing up your data and clearing them off from the phone is to protect your privacy. Smartphones are now being used to keep personal data including credit card numbers, passwords, etc. You would never want to give out these kinds of information.
Here are the things you should do before you let go of your phone and hand it over to the new owner:
Backup Important Data. If you have some very important data in your phone including contacts, photos and videos, it is recommended you back them up before you do the cleaning. Contacts can be backed up using some apps from the Play Store or you can simply sync the phone with your Google account. As for individual files, music and videos, they can be copied directly into a computer.
Remove SIM Card. A lot of people tend to forget to take their SIM card off their old phones but this should be among the first things you should check before giving away the device. If you’ve been using the same number for quite some time odds are people you know may still be calling you on that number. Other than that, you will also end up giving away not only your number to people you may not know.
Remove SD Card. High capacity SD cards are expensive so it’s up to you if you want to give it away together with the phone or keep it. It’s either you reformat it so all data would be deleted or take it off the phone and keep it in a safe place or use in your brand new smartphone.
Decide What To Do With Accessories. These items are often given away when you buy a brand new unit. However, if you bought some accessories separately, you must decide whether to give them to the new owner or keep them. Extra batteries, cases, and screen protectors are just some of the accessories that might be given away for free.
Wipe Data / Factory Reset. When everything is ready and all data have been backed up, wipe all data on your phone so it will be reset to its factory settings. Not only does it solve privacy problems for the old owner but it would also set the device to its original settings to make seem like new.
The most challenging part in selling second-hand smartphones is that you would have to convince possible buyers that the phone is in good condition without any damage whatsoever. That is why it’s always advisable to reset the phone to its original settings because it would fix some software problems or inconsistencies.
