To somewhat increase the emphasis of Android on our lives, Panasonic has just announced a home phone powered by Android known as the KX-PRX120. This will work like a regular home phone (based on the DECT standard), with a 40 minute answering machine and also bring the versatility of Android along with it.
This home phone packs a 3.5 inch [480×320] capacitive display, a 0.3MP front facing camera for video calls, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, a 1,450 mAh battery and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There’s no mention of the RAM or processor on board, but it’s almost immaterial since it is a home phone. It comes with the Google Play Store preinstalled.
There’s no word on its global availability, but the Panasonic KX-PRX120 should arrive in the UK soon. The idea of an Android powered home phone is pretty neat, but we’re yet to see how it would work in real life. Panasonic is renowned for home phones, so it will definitely bring some of its expertise into this new product.
