Don’t you miss those days when you could angrily flap your phone shut to disconnect a call when someone on the other end pisses you off? Today’s smartphones are all bar in form, and the only way to have an old-style form factor is to go old-school. But Samsung is considering the likes of you, if you miss one of these phones. Samsung’s Hennessy phone is a flip phone with a twist. It is a high end smartphone that comes with a quad-core processor, a physical keypad and two screens – both touch! The other good part is that this clamshell phone runs on Android!
The Samsung Hennessy phone, model number SCH-W789 is reportedly going to release the clamshell phone in China and will be available on the China Telecom carrier. The phone has 2 3.3 inch displays with a pitifully low 480 x 320 pixels resolution and a numeric keypad when the phone is flipped open. The phone however has quite an impressive 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, most likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 and1 GB RAM.
To match up with modern mid-range smartphones, the clamshell phone comes with a 5 megapixels primary camera, two slots for SIM cards and Android 4.1.2. It appears Samsung is targeting users with nostalgia over old-style flip phones and are sweetening the deal by making the phone available in luxury Gold color.
The Samsung Hennessy is set for an August launch in the Chinese and Korean markets with no indications it will be coming to other markets in the world. It is likely that Samsung is launching it in the two top Asian markets as an experiment to see just how much people miss the old days. If it gets a warm reception, chances are that we may be seeing the Hennessy in the US markets in the near future. Would you buy the clamshell?
