Radioactive Custom ROM for Sony Xperia Z and ZL Complete with Honami Apps Now Available

If you own a Sony Xperia Z or Xperia ZL and wish you could get the amazing apps that come with the new Sony Honami on your device, then you may just be in luck because there is a custom ROM for your device that has all these features.  If you can remember, I wrote a piece about the software features included in the Sony Honami phablet a couple of days ago, most notable being the camera app which comes with a ton of features including Effect Mode, SocialCast, TimeShift, Info-Eye and Manual.  The camera app also has real-time photo editing feature in augmented reality that lets users add virtual objects in images as they take them.

Krabappel2548, an XDA-developers-based developer is the man to thank for this new ROM that brings features Sony hasn’t made available for the older devices yet – and even before the actual features are released.  Remember that the new Radioactive Custom ROM was built from a leaked Sony Honami system dump and somehow all the major apps are said to run perfectly well even on the older Xperia Z and Xperia ZL devices for now.  The developer promises that the new ROM runs smoothly and fast and because it is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean, users get to enjoy all the amazing benefits of the latest Android ROM alongside the unreleased features of the Sony apps and especially the user interface.

The apps ported to the Sony Xperia Z and ZL custom Radioactive ROM include:

  • Camera
  • Album
  • Launcher and widgets
  • Clock
  • Sketch
  • Calculator
  • Phonebook
  • Walkman
  • Small apps
  • Calendar
  • Video

I am not a diehard Sony fan but I could tell from the screenshots of the device running the new ROM that the interface is much sleeker and the new Walkman app looks amazing too.  There is also the Small Apps feature which allows users to multitask within an application by opening up to 3 smaller versions of an app at a time.

The developer, krabappel2548, assures us that the ROM runs smoothly and fast, but remember that just with any other customization, there is always a risk you cannot ignore when installing a custom ROM on your device.  If you are not proficient in customizing or are not sure what you are doing, it is best you do not risk bricking your device.

Check out the screenshots below of a device running the custom Radioactive ROM.  If you would like to read more or download and install the ROM, head on to the XDA-Developers page where you will find all the guides, resources and answers you need to proceed.
