Android 4.3 for Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition screenshots surface

Purported screenshots of Android 4.3 running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon version Samsung Galaxy S 4, otherwise known as the GT-I9505, have been published by Sam Mobile.

According to the publication’s source, the test build had been created for another device, the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition or the GT-I9505G. Such handset came loaded with Android 4.2.2.

The About Phone screenshot gives the details of the build. The Android version is Android 4.3 and the build number is JWR66N.S005.130625. According to Sam Mobile, such build number allows Samsung to differentiate among internal test builds. There is also a screenshot of what appears to be an Easter egg, and another taken with the camera.

To date, Android 4.3 has not been made official. It appears, however, that OEMs have been given the code early to give them time to prepare for the launch.

In connection with the leaked screenshots, alleged proof that Samsung was preparing the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition was also recently spotted in a separate screenshot for a product identified as “jgedlteue.” Such product name is said to be a shortcut for Project J, Google Edition, LTE, US, English, says Pocketnow.

Meanwhile, a Nexus 4 running the same updated operating system has also been previously caught on camera. A Nexus 7 with Android 4.3 paid a visit this month to the FCC, as well.

Google had been expected to announce the Android 4.3 update, or even Android 5.0, during Google I/O, but for some reason, the company opted to reveal it at a later time.

It is expected that Android 4.3 will be available in the next couple of weeks on the Google Play edition handsets, as well as the Nexus devices. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that Android 5.0, which is known within Google as the “K” release, and is rumored to be called Key Lime Pie, will be released this fall.
