Rugged smartphone models are becoming more popular these days as consumers are looking for devices that can withstand accidental water splashes. LG has just introduced their first high end waterproof Android smartphone in Taiwan. The LG Optimus GJ is the company’s newest model that has water and dust resistance and is an upgrade to the LG Optimus G.

The LG Optimus GJ is quite similar to the Optimus G however is slightly larger owing to its IPX7 certification. The company claims that you can submerge this model under a meter of water for up to 30 minutes without damaging it. While no person will intentionally submerge their device under water it’s good to know that it won’t be affected by accidental water spills.
The device will start selling this coming June for $17,990 TWD or roughly US$600. There will be two colors to choose from, one in all black while the other in black and red. The company has not announced if this device will be making its way in the U.S. anytime soon but we will keep you posted.
