LG Working on Nexus 5 and Wants Deeper Ties to Google

Nexus 4

Rumours have come to light that LG the maker of the very successful Nexus 4 are working on another Google phone the Nexus 5, but they’re not only interested in manufacturing Googles next smartphone.

LG wants to expand their partnership with the search giant into other areas such as smart TV’s and possibly Google Glass, they are using their close relationship status with Google to their advantage now as they manage to get into the top three most popular smartphone in the first fiscal quarter of 2013.

LG in the Top Three

LG snatched third place with the help of their relationship with Google allowing them to manufacture the Nexus 4 and LG’s own smartphone the Opitmus G which is proving very popular.Even though LG is doing very well in the smartphone race they are still in the shadows or the top two Apple and Samsung who combined hold 50 percent of the global market, compared to those giants LG holds 4.8 percent of the global market.

LG’s global percentage may seem low but the sales figures show that LG’s Optimus G and Nexus 4 have sold more than 1 million units which is a respectable figure in a market as competitive as the smartphone market is.

The Rumoured Nexus 5

The Nexus 5 has been rumoured to have a quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor on board and a 32GB storage option, this will offer the user a blindingly fast experience and enough storage to have all of your music, apps and photos to take with you everywhere.

The Nexus 5 has had the code name of ‘Megalodon’ in rumors of the device first came to light, Googles I/O conference is on the 15th – 17th of May so if the rumoured device is coming this year then there will be a keynote at the event. Since the last LG Nexus device was so well received there will no reason why LG wouldn’t be the perfect candidate.

What can we Expect and When

Many fabled features have been coming from the rumour mill about the Nexus 5 for example that it will sync up with Google Glass just by being near the device with no human interaction. Of course there have been the usual rumours floating around like a larger screen, faster processor and better looking screen maybe OLED. Who knows the Nexus 5 maybe running a new flavour of Google’s mobile operating system Android.

Google doesn’t have a product cycle, when a product is released you can’t judge when the next version is going to come along it just appears with little warning. I suppose their product ads make up for the fact that you can’t anticipate when the next one is coming, also it’s not like their primary business is hardware; after Google’s the goliath of online search, it would be a bit worrying if they were a hardware company with no products planned.
