Google Play adds new shipping options

Google Play is adding more shipping and delivery choices, according to a report in Droid Life.

At present, Google Play only offers the “ships in 1-2 business days” option. This can be pricey at around $5.99 to $13.99, depending on what one is purchasing.

The new choices offer more pocket-friendly alternatives for those who are willing to wait a bit more to get their device or accessory. At present, however, Google says that these options are only for the Nexus 4 family of products only, possibly including accessories. Thus, it appears that those who are ordering the Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 will have to use the “ships in 1-2 business days” option from UPS, at least for now. There is no information on whether Google will eventually offer the new shipping option on all items ordered from Google Play.

According to the announcement, the new shipping options will be: UPS two-day shipping, which involves two business days of processing and another two days for delivery, making it the most expensive option;

Ground, with two business days of processing plus a slightly longer delivery time of between three to five business days; and lastly, the budget-conscious option Saver, with two business days of processing and between five to ten business days for delivery. As of now, not all orders, however, can be shipped using the Saver option, as Google considers the weight of the order to allow customers to select such option.

In the announcement, Google also states that it computes the shipping cost during checkout, taking into account the weight of the item or items ordered. The total shipping cost depends on the shipping company. Also, these options are only available in the United States.

These new shipping options would be available soon, as per Droid Life’s sources. This would likely be a welcome change for shoppers at Google Play, as it gives them more flexibility in deciding how much they are willing to spend for shipping or how much time they are willing to wait to receive their order.
