HTC is on a roll! If the latest rumor of the 606w device is anything to go by, HTC has a slew of releases this year, more than any other smartphone company. The new device is rumored to be created for the Asian market and will be launched in China soon.
A first look at the device reveals a 4.3 inch 720p display screen with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB internal storage and 2GB RAM. Other features include an 8MP rear camera, 1.6 MP front camera for video calling, a microSD slot for storage expansion, dual soft key design, front stereo speakers and a WCDMA radio. The handset is aimed at the mid-income bracket in China. The handset however will not be running Android’s latest 4.2 – JellyBean but will be running Android 4.1.2 instead. This is a surprise move by HTC which usually provides its customers the latest in hardware and software features.
According to sources, China’s regulatory body has already approved the new phone, the 606w which will launch in the country soon. There is no update however on whether this phone has been designed exclusively for China or whether it will launch in other countries across the Asia Pacific, or the world.
HTC has declined to comment about the new offering and has not revealed pricing details about the phone or whether it will hit other stores across the world. The Taiwanese company has a couple of mid-range phones in the pipeline, apart from the 606w, that is plans to launch later this year. Consumers and tech buffs are keeping their eyes peeled for more news about the rumored Chinese phone, the HTC 606w.
