Ematic Unveils Genesis Prime, An $80 Android Tablet

Are you still looking for an affordable that comes with decent features? You might want to check out the latest offering of Ematic which is the Genesis Prime. The company is known for releasing budget friendly devices and their latest model falls in this category costing only $80. You won’t get anything fancy at this price range but you’ll already be using Android Jelly Bean and have full access to Google’s services.

Ematic Genesis Prime Technical Specifications

  • 1.1 GHz processor
  • 7-inch display
  • 512 MB of installed RAM (DDR2)
  • 4 GB Internal storage capacity
  • Front-Facing Camera
  • Integrated Wi-Fi
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

There are no details as to what type of processor this tablet is using but we’re guessing it could be an ARM Cortex-A8 chip. The 7 inch display also lacks details on its resolution but since this is a budget device it could be 800×480 pixels or within this vicinity.

While the specifications of this device aren’t great it’s not that bad either. For the price of $80 this could make a good eBook reader, video player, or an email checker. This makes a good choice to give to first time tablet users such as kids.

One thing we are concerned though is the 512 MB of RAM used on a Jelly Bean operating system. Some devices with 1 GB of RAM usually experiences some lag when using Jelly Bean and running certain apps so expect to experience some lag on this device. This tablet however should work great if minimal tasks are running.

If you have extra cash to spare you might want to go for the Google Nexus 7 which goes for $199 and comes with excellent specs as well as several great features.
