J. K. Rowling has long partnered with Sony to bring to the web Pottermore, an interactive portal where fans of Harry Potter can build a community. Now, an announcement from Pottermore Insider reveals that Sony and the Harry Potter franchise are once again working on a new product for the Playstation 3’s free virtual 3D gaming platform.
The project, called Pottermore at Playstation Home, will allow fans of the book series to meet and play with others, similar to the concept behind the Pottermore website.
Pottermore at Playstation lets gamers stroll through Diagon Alley, one of the places from the fantasy novel, as well as ride the Hogwarts Express in a three-dimensional environment. Likewise, there are four mini-games, including Book Herding, a quiz, a Wizard’s Duel, and a Pottermore Trading Card came.
It also allows users to choose and customize their own avatar that will travel through the world that the books brought to life. Users are provided with various outfits, including uniforms, robes, and casual wear. Pets, such as owls, cats, toads are available, as well, to accompany the user.
Pottermore at Playstation Home, it is worth noting, requires a Playstation Home account to enjoy the full set of features. Registered users of the Pottermore website who have gone past the Sorting on Chapter 7 of Pottermore can also link their accounts with the Playstation Home account, and be able to enjoy more content.
The Playstation game comes almost two years since the Pottermore website was opened for a limited beta release on July 31, 2011. The online community lets users practice spells, brew potions, engage in duels, and earn points for groups called Houses.
Pottermore at Playstation Home is expected to arrive next month according to Pottermore Insider. A trailer, giving fans a preview of the game, has already been made available on Youtube.
