Nokia’s water repelling smart phones of the future with P2i

Water repelling coating for Motorola smart phones

Waterproofing any electronic or electrical appliance is very important. You do not want to short the circuits inside a gadget which you use very regularly, such as your smart phone. We carry our smart phones always with us, everywhere we go. And when it is raining, it is very difficult to protect the smart phone from the rain. Sometimes the rain water may get to our phones in our pant pockets. And also, when we are in a pub with our smart phone, there are very good chances that our smart phones may get some fluids on them. For this reason, there are a few companies which make waterproof coating for smart phones.

P2i is one such company, as we saw at the Mobile World Congress. The company showcased its product which is able to protect our smart phones from spills and water. The product is a coating which we have to apply on our smart phones. This is what makes the Motorola DROID 4 and the Motorola DROID RAZR water proof with Motorola’s Splash Guard.

But P2i is working on a new technology which will let smart phones be submerged in water for a certain amount of time without harming the circuits inside. And it looks like Nokia has signed a deal with the company to come with a water repellent phone later this year. We are guessing that this will be the Nokia Lumia 1000 EOS with the 41 mega pixel PureView camera on it. P2i’s nano coating cover the Huawei Ascend D2 as well.

And in regular cases, we, as customers, buy such a water proofing coating for our smart phones after we buy the smart phone, this becomes an accessory. But in Nokia’s case, the waterproof coating will be in the smart phone manufacturing process itself, which waterproofs the internal electric circuit board, making the even the internal water repelled. We still have to get official words from any one of the two companies about this.
