Magic: The Gathering, popularly known also as MTG, is considered to be as the earliest collectible and customizable card game that involves a strategic gameplay. It was designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast in 1993.
It became one of the most in demand collectible card games in the early 90’s because of its appeal to the fans of the fantasy genre and especially to the people who grew up with Dungeons & Dragons. Up to now, competitions are still being held worldwide to determine the best player of this trading card game.
Due to the overwhelming popularity of Magic: The Gathering, it underwent various spin-offs featured in video games and various media. Action figures were also produced based on the images and likenesses of the characters featured in the trading cards. Other notable trading card games inspired by the franchise started to flourish too like Vampire: The Eternal Struggle.
In the present era, the card game became the basis of the popular Yu-Gi-Oh anime series. Pokemon even produced its own trading card game with similarities to the rules that Magic: The Gathering innovated.
Now, Wizards of the Coast is proud to announce the coming of the Magic: The Gathering franchise to the world of Android-operated smartphones and tablets in the form of Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers.
Prior to the inclusion of the game to Android devices, it was only offered for iOS-operated gadgets. It was introduced in 2009 by its official publisher to the Apple store. However, as the demand for Android gadgets have risen, it will be made officially available for the Android operating system as well.
The official Magic: The Gathering for Android was revealed by Worth Wollpert, Wizards of the Coast Executive Producer, according to the Droid Gamers site. Wollpert said that it will feature cross-platform online and offline plays that will surely deliver absolute gaming experience on the part of the user.
Aside from the cross-platform multiplayer capability of the 2014 Magic: The Gathering for Android, it will come with a fresh storyline, fifteen entirely new encounters, ten revolutionary decks, awesome game modes that have never been made available before, a lot of new and exciting new puzzles, plus more.
In addition to the Android and iOS systems, the 2014 Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers will be offered for the PC, the Playstation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade.
PAX East will be exhibiting a demo of the new game this weekend, stated Engadget in its site. Then, the release of the Magic: The Gathering for Android and other consoles will be sometime this coming summer.
Although the game is still yet to be released, fans are now flooding the websites that featured the announcement of Wollpert. Majority was excited about the news but some old school players wanted none of it, saying that the physical game is much better.
