We have heard rumors about companies like Facebook, Amazon working on their own smart phone lineup, but we have seen nothing from these companies in this regard till now. For the past few years, there have been several rumors on the internet about a phone that is exclusively build by internet giants like Amazon, Facebook but the closest thing we have seen to a smart phone is the HTC’s Chacha, a Facebook centered phone and the kindle tablet lineup from Amazon.
Now, new rumors suggest that Amazon has partnered up with Foxconn for the production of their smart phone and plans to launch the device by the end of the Q2 of 2012. But reports suggest that the company will most likely delay the launch to the end of the year due to problems with Foxconn. Although the company has not yet made the plans public, we expect them to reveal more details about the device in the coming months.
It is also rumored that the device will have a 4.7 inch screen as opposed to the previously predicted 4.3 inch and the device would be well equipped to compete with the other high end devices in the market. Now, we can’t exactly predict the actual specifications of the device as Amazon has been able to keep this project a secret for some time now. Also price point would be a major influence on the device features.
With its kindle lineup, Amazon had made sure that their devices were affordable as well as well equipped and we expect the smart phone to be priced around the range of $100 – $200. Considering this price point, which is quite low as compared to other high end devices in the market, the device will most likely feature a quad core processor with a IPS or an Amoled display. But it is just a guess and we would have to wait till the actual unveiling for further details about the device.
Stay tuned for more updates about the rumored 4.7 inch smart phone from Amazon in the coming weeks.
