We all know that a Firefox powered mobile device is coming out soon but do you know what the specifications of the device running on this new operating system will be? At the Mobile World Congress which is currently held at Barcelona an anonymous tipster found out the specs of the ZTE Open which is an upcoming device that will run on Firefox.
Here are the spotted technical specs of the ZTE Open taken from the ZTE booth
- Cortex-A5-based Qualcomm MSM7225A (clocked at around 600 MHz or 800 MHz)
- 3.5-inch HVGA TFT display with capacitive touchscreen
- 256MB DDR SDRAM
- 512MB NAND storage
- Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1 (with EDR3)
- FM radio
- 3.2-megapixel fixed focus camera
In terms of hardware capabilities there really isn’t much to get excited about. The only thing that makes this device interesting is that it will be using a new mobile operating system and it’s also going to be the first ZTE device to run on Firefox OS.
Since the company hasn’t officially made any announcements yet at the MWC on this device there’s still no information on when it will be released and how much it is going to cost. Experts however estimate the price tag to be below $100.
Firefox OS, also known as Boot to Gecko (B2G), is a new mobile operating system developed by Mozilla. Its main feature is that it allows HTML5 based applications to directly integrate with the device hardware. This allows HTML5 apps to run faster and allow for various customization options. Analysts have estimated that this new OS will capture 1% of the total global smartphone market this year alone once it is released.
