Virgin Mobile Launches Kyocera Event For Only $79

A budget friendly Android device has just been launched over at Virgin Mobile. The Kyocera Event will be selling at only $79 from the carrier and you won’t be tied down to a contract since you can get this on the prepaid option. If you pair this with the $35 a month plan from the company that offers 300 minutes then you’ve got one of the best offers for those who don’t want to spend a lot on phone bills.

Kyocera Event Technical Specifications

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 3.5 inch HVGA IP display
  • 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB ROM
  • memory card expansion up to 32GB
  • 3.2MP LED Flash Camera & Camcorder
  • QWERTY keypad with Swype
  • MagniFont
  • Eco Mode

Despite having low end specifications it’s actually quite decent. You will already get Ice Cream Sandwich straight out of the box and the software is lightly skinned so there’s little to no lag at all.

According to Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of global sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications, “Kyocera Event on Virgin Mobile is the perfect device for the millions of people buying their first smartphone, or those who simply want a full featured, yet affordable phone without a contract. Whether it’s the simple elegance of black or the stand-out-in-a-crowd confidence of RadioShack’s exclusive red, Kyocera Event has style and performance far beyond its affordable price tag.”

This might not be the choice for advanced Android users but for those about to make the switch from feature phone to smartphone then this is highly recommended. An estimated 500,000 people each week make the switch to smartphone so this is a huge market to tap for Virgin Mobile and Kyocera.

As of now only the black version of the device is available from Virgin Mobile. The red version is exclusively distributed by Radio Shack which should be available by March 3.

  1. Yeah! Another low end phone to drive you crazy with slow speeds and limited memory. Worthless. Give us a decent phone Virgin not left overs!
