Toshiba has just announced their first Android tablet to be released this year called the Regza AT501. This 7 inch Android device should be hitting the stores in Japan later this week and is priced at around $425. If you are familiar with the company’s release of the AT500 tablet last year then you will notice that both are quite similar.
Toshiba Regza AT501 Technical Specifications
- Android 4.1
- 10.1-inch 1280×800 IPS display
- 1.3GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 32GB of onboard storage
- microSD card slot
- 3 MP rear-facing camera
- Wi-Fi b/g/n
- Bluetooth 3.0
- USB 2.0
- 10 hours of continuous use
The specifications of the device are hardly impressive. The only thing worth looking at is the 32 GB internal storage as well as its ten hour battery life while the other hardware specs are one step behind the competition. Other alternatives such as the Nexus 10 come with better specs despite having a smaller internal storage.
The camera is a real letdown offering only 3 MP when a 5 MP or 8 MP could have been used.
On a positive note this device can work with a Toshiba Regza TV when a companion app is installed coming from the company’s Regza Apps website.
It’s going to be difficult for Toshiba to market this device considering that the competition has better models. We are not sure where the company is headed by releasing tablets like this but they have to come up with innovative ideas to be able to get a larger share of the Android tablet market.
If this device were priced lower then it could have been a better deal.
Don’t expect this device to be sold outside Asia anytime soon since it already has been released under a different name which is the Excite 10 SE.
