Rumor: Google Working On Chromebook Pixel

We might be seeing a new breed of Chromebooks coming soon if rumors are to be believed. Francois Beaufort recently made a post with a photo of a device described as Chromebook Pixel. If the name Beaufort seems familiar to you he is the same person who provided a screenshot of the new notification center on the Chrome OS.

The new Chromebook was featured in a video that spread over at Google+ but has already been taken down. The video was created by a company called who has worked with the search giant on various projects before. Company CEO Victor Koch says that hackers accessed their servers and got video copies of several projects that Google is working on which haven’t been published yet.

We however got a copy of this for you to see.

The Chromebook Pixel is an impressive piece of hardware based on what we have seen so far. It also looks like Google will be handling the design of this device since the tagline “Designed by Google. Down to the last pixel” is included in the video.

The two features that are featured are a touchscreen display as well as a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels. The exterior looks like it’s made of an aluminum material or high grade plastic.

We ran a story previously regarding the possibility of a touchscreen Chromebook coming soon and this video has just added weight to the previous report.

Of course we should take everything with a grain of salt as we still don’t have the official statement regarding this device. For all we know this might just be a publicity stunt but then again we would definitely want to see this device being made.

The Chromebooks currently available in the market today don’t have a touchscreen and comes with a resolution of 1280×800 or 1366×768 depending on the model.
