Rumor: Motorola X Phone Launching With Kevlar Body, Sony Optics and Android 5.0 at Google I/O 2013

We’ve heard about the Motorola X phone on several occasions, but nothing new or concrete was known about the device besides the fact that it was being developed jointly with Google. The smartphone has been reported to be announced at the Google I/O event which begins from May 15 this year. The I/O event is always of utmost significance as it is host to a bunch of exciting announcements with regards to Android and its newest versions. At last year’s Google I/O, we saw Android 4.1 Jelly Bean being announced. This year’s I/O event however is apparently going to be more fruitful with the announcement of the rumored Motorola X phone also known as Project X taking place. The device’s existence was confirmed by a job posting made by Motorola for the X Phone, so we know it’s real. What we don’t know is exactly what the device will be like. Google has given hints in the past that it’s working to get a smartphone with better durability and battery life.

And according to a tipster cited by Phone Arena, the smartphone could well be unveiled at the May 15 Google I/O event and with some explosive hardware on board. The tipster apparently knows somebody who is using a prototype of the said device. The display on the device is only attached so as to work the phone around, and it isn’t the final version apparently. But it is estimated that Google/Motorola will launch the device with a decent enough LCD when the time arrives.  The size will most probably be under 5-inches, with 4.8-inch being the favorite as of now. The durability bit, is said to be backed up by Motorola’s favorite Kevlar material which is being used since the days of the Droid Razr back in 2011. The battery too will be no big deal for Motorola as it has mastered a way to fit in enormous battery packs without sacrificing much on the overall look of the device (Droid Razr Maxx, Droid Razr Maxx HD). The battery capacity of the Motorola X Phone will apparently be above 3,000 mAh. A quad core processor should be on board as well.

Further, it is believed that Motorola will be utilizing a Sony made superior camera sensor for this phone, which should be a massive shift from the average camera sensors it currently users. Moreover, the X Phone apparently is believed to pack a microSD card slot for memory expansion. The overall storage apparently can be taken all the way up to 128GB, which is a little hard to believe actually. The smartphone is said to pack Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie which isn’t surprising at the least as it is sort of a Google phone, minus the Nexus tag. This makes us believe if Google is contemplating launching a new lineup of stock Android smartphones under the Motorola X branding. It certainly seems plausible given that we haven’t seen the two companies come up with anything substantial after the dismal Android 3.0 launch with the Motorola XOOM tablet back in January 2011. We advise you to take this with a pinch of salt as of now as these are very early information about the device. But let’s hope that Google actually unveils the device at the I/O event in May.
