LG officially announces Optimus G Pro

LG has officially announced the upcoming release of the Optimus Pro G smartphone. The device, which sports a 5.5-inch 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 400ppi, is slated to be launched this week in its home country, Korea on Wednesday, February 20.


In its press release about the device, LG has not revealed whether the smartphone is heading to other markets, as well. Meanwhile, The Verge has gotten word that the device will be available in North America sometime during the second quarter of the year.

The LG Optimus G Pro will pack a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean will be its operating system. The device will draw its power from a 3,140 mAh battery and feature a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera plus a 2.1-megapixel front-facing one. Also onboard is a microSD card slot that lets users add up to 64GB of extra storage space. USB, NFC, and HDMI are likewise offered as connectivity opions.

The LG Optimus G Pro has dimensions of 150.2 x 76.1 x 9.4mm and a weight of 172 grams. It will be available in two colors: black and white.

Some of the notable features on the phablet include dual recording, which enables users to record video simultaneously with the rear and front cameras, is also offered. In addition, there is the Virtual Reality Panorama feature, which lets users capture scenes in 360 degress. Its camera also features a tracking focus, as well. Moreover, South Korean users may enjoy the handset’s support for QShopping.

Those who are familiar with the LG Optimus G will recognize some similar features among the two handsets, as well. For one, there is the Live Zooming feature that allows users to zoom in via a pinching gesture while a video is being played. QuickMemo, meanwhile, allows for comments, notes, and drawings to be added to screenshots and sent to contacts.

The smartphone will be showcased during the Mobile World Congress in LG’s booth in Hall 3.

In South Korea, it is slated to be released on SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus. The device is also expected to be launched in Japan and, as previously mentioned, in North America.
