Specs of the Samsung Galaxy Pocket Plus Leaked

It’s that time of the year when we hear plenty of rumors about upcoming smartphones and their features. While most of the news sites are flooding with information about flagship smartphones, there’s very little to hear about low end or entry level smartphones. Not that the frequency in the launch of these devices have decreased, it’s just that we don’t pay too much heed to these devices. Today, one such smartphone has caught our attention. This smartphone is yet to be launched, so what we’re dealing with here is a premature leak of the smartphone, courtesy of Sam Mobile. The handset will be known as the Galaxy Pocket Plus (GT-S5301) and is the successor to the widely popular budget smartphone, the Galaxy Pocket. The smartphone will have a Latin American variant as well, which will go by the model number – GT-S5301L. Below are the exact leaked specifications of the smartphone as mentioned by SamMobile:

  • Android OS: IceCream Sandwich (4.0.4)
  • BCM21654, 850Mhz (Broadcom)
  • GSM (GSM850/ EGSM900/ DCS1800/ PCS1900), WCDMA (W850/ W1900)
  • 4G Bytes (eMMC) + 4G bits (RAM) memory
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • 2.8″ QVGA TFT (C-type, Multi Touch)
  • 1200mAh standard battery
  • A-GPS / BT v3.0 / USB v2.0 HS / WiFi (802.11 b/g/n) / FM Radio
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Digital Compass

Now there’s nothing much to expect from this budget droid, but it’s certainly welcoming news that this little fella runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. We’re not sure if Jelly Bean will be supported on this one, but we recommend you to not raise your hopes and go with what’s given. And before you confuse the RAM to be 4GB, it’s actually only 512MB. But since they’ve mentioned it in gigabits, it’s displayed that way. There’s a full 4GB of onboard storage though, which is good enough for a smartphone of its caliber and there is also a microSD card slot for storage expansion. The usual array of connectivity options are pretty well placed, which make the Galaxy Pocket Plus an attractive proposition for potential buyers. Although the CPU is only 850 MHz, it’s negligible as what we’re dealing with here is a budget droid. The smartphone will apparently be launched in the first half of 2013 with no exact date given. We’re guessing Samsung will announce the handset at the MWC and launch it immediately after that.
