Sony Xperia Z To be Available in Europe on February 18?

The Sony Xperia Z and ZL were probably the best smartphones announced at CES, along with the flurry of smartphones announced by ZTE and Huawei of course. Sony’s offering (s) are particularly interesting because they appeal to a larger global audience, while companies like Huawei and ZTE have limited reach globally, although that could change this year. So it won’t be wrong to say that we’ve just encountered the best smartphone of 2013, and we’re only 9 days into the year, so it’s still early days mind you. And as with any new smartphone, there’s often an aura of suspicion and speculation about the device’s launch. The Xperia Z is going through such a phase now, with several reports giving out different reports each time. An earlier report claimed that the Xperia Z was arriving in the UK in March and for €650 ($847). And now we have a report coming from an authorized Sony retailer in Poland that the smartphone is due to hit Europe on February 18. The price is believed to be a ginormous €680 ($887).

None of this is confirmed of course, so take it with a pinch of salt for now. But I think since it’s coming from an authorized Sony retailer, there’s enough reason to put our money on it. Regardless, irrespective of when it arrives the smartphone is no doubt a beauty. I guess after the MWC 2013 in February, we might find tons of other smartphones like this, especially that one from HTC we’ve been hearing so much about. So it might behoove Sony to exploit the advantage it has by launching the smartphone early and make the most of it while it still can. The smartphone is up for pre order on Clove UK for £440 ($704) before taxes, which seems like the cheapest deal as of now. So let’s hope we get to see this Sony droid hit the shelves soon as there won’t be enough room for multiple 1080p droids to coexist in the Android world and it will be a repeat of 2012 all over again.

For those of you who haven’t heard of the Xperia Z, it features a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display panel with Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, a 13.1MP Exmor RS camera sensor on the back with a 2.2MP front facing snapper as well, both capable of 1080p video capture. The chipset on board is the quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro with each cores clocked at 1.5GHz. There’s a 2,330 mAh non removable battery pack inside, which should provide ample up time for the smartphone. The front and back of the smartphone is made with reflective glass as Sony likes to call it, and is pretty premium looking. Despite being made of glass, the smartphone is believed to be pretty rugged and is IP57 certified (water and dust resistant).
