Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update rolls out starting in Russia

The Samsung Galaxy S Advance with model number i9070 was rumored to receive Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update starting January 2013. Rumors started in November 2013 but there was no certainty at that time. However, it seems like all rumors about the update are true as Galaxy S Advance owners in Russia started receiving notifications that an update is now available over-the-air. Other users reported that they were able to pull down the update using the Samsung KIES.

The rollout has also been confirmed by Sam Mobile, a blog dedicated to bringing latest news and updates from Samsung. A tipster identified only as evolution102 shared some screenshots confirming the rollout. According to the site, they expected the update would arrive in March but it seems like Samsung is trying to impress its customers by releasing updates earlier than expected.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance was announced in January 2012 running Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread on its dual-core NovaThor U8500 processor clocked at 1GHz. There were rumors before that it will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but Samsung itself let those rumors die saying the device will bypass ICS and go straight to receiving Jelly Bean 9 months after its release.

While it is a mid-range device, its specs can run Jelly Bean without any problems. Its CPU is complemented with 768MB RAM. It also features Samsung’s Super AMOLED display technology bearing 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Going back to the update, the following are details of the official firmware:

OS: Android 4.1.2
Date: December 18th
Changelist: 660490

If you are in Russia, you can try checking if you can find updates using your phone. Otherwise, you need to download the Samsung KIES client and install it in you computer and let it do the rest.

For now, there are no words when the update could reach other regions. It is believed European owners can get the update before it reaches the U.S. It may take a few weeks but looking at the bright side, the update is coming.
