Google offers $99 Chromebook for Classrooms

Google had built Chrome operating software for notebook computers in an effort to compete with Microsoft Windows powered machines. In partnership with Donors Choose, Google offers the Samsung Series 5 Chrome book for only $99 across the U.S. starting Monday. Basically, Google has taken away a discount amounting to $330, which we can say the biggest discount we’ve seen this year. The promotion, however, will last only until December 21 this year, so those who might want to avail should act now.

Chromebook has been used for over a thousand U.S. schools and classrooms and teachers have flooded the charity website to take advantage of this very affordable chrome book. According to Rajen Sheth, Group Product Manager, Google’s Samsung Series 5 is widely deployed in most schools at present. Its original price is $429 but has been offered to qualified public school teachers on a discounted rate.

The Samsung Series 5 Chromebook has a display of 12-inch, 2 GB of RAM, a dual-core Intel Atom N570 processor clocked at 1.66GHz, a built-in webcam, Wi-Fi connectivity, a 4-in-1 memory card slot, a micro-VGA port with a VGA adapter, with 2 GB of RAM and a long battery life. In other words, this laptop can compete with any mid-range laptops available in the market today.

Rajen Sheth said that teachers who wish to obtain this device for their schools must visit Donors Choose website for instructions on how to avail with the promo. Aside from that, request from the teachers will be posted on the charity website and has the chance to receive donations from other people for their classrooms. Once funding goal has reached, respective teachers will receive their Chrome books that will be distributed by the charity’s partner, Lakeshore Learning.

A lot of schools have purchased this device because not only does it helps in the literacy of students it is also very affordable. While Chromebook is like any other laptop, it has its own features students can enjoy while learning. Of course, with the power of the internet, information can now be accessed faster and more easily than before.

It has been indicated by Google that the promo offer is exclusively for public teachers only, and will last until this December 21st. Indeed, the offer received a “tremendous response” from teachers. In fact, Donors Choose announced on Tuesday that the website is no longer receiving request from teachers because the allotted units have already been reserved for those who have made requests first.
