Apple has once again released its annual list of the best software that may be downloaded from iTunes. Simply called iTunes Best of 2012, it includes applications for iOS and OS X that have been selected by its own editors.
The best iPhone app is Action Movie FX which is by Bad Robot Interactive. This is a free app that allows users to incorporate Hollywood FX to movies taken with the iPhone or the iPad. This app was released last year, but version 2.0 was released just a few months ago.
The iPhone game of the year is Rayman Jungle Run by Ubisoft. It costs $2.99 to download from iTunes and features “40 levels of platforming action,” according to its description.
Taking the first place among iPad apps is Paper, an app by FiftyThree, Inc. This is a drawing app that lets users save “sketches, diagrams, illustrations, notes or drawings and share them across the web.” The app itself is free, but users can download new tools for extra costs.
Meanwhile, the best game on the iPad for 2012 is The Room by Fireproof Games. Its description calls the game “a physical puzzler, wrapped in a mystery game, inside a beautifully tactile 3D world.” It also boasts of being the number one app in the US, UK, the number one game in 19 countries, the number 1 puzzle game in 41 countries, and the number 1 adventure game in 49.
As for the Mac, Day One is named as the best app. This software by Bloom Built LLC, calls itself “a new, simple way to journal” by making use of the cloud to save entries. The best game for the Mac, for its part, is Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Ultimate Edition by Feral Interactive Ltd., a game that features the character Adam Jensen, a former SWAT commander. This game, which has also been lauded during WWDC for its design, costs $39.99 to download.
