uPlay announces its PhonePad Gen 2- a 7-inch Tablet, Smartphone and GPS

uPlay, another emerging high tech company from the Silicon valley, has launched its next generation tablet called the PhonePad Gen 2. The next generation PhonePad became available just a few weeks back. The major improvements in the Phonepad Gen 2 over its predecessor are- the improved CPU (Qualcomm 7227 1 GHz) performance and an avant-garde OS- Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

PhonePad Gen 2 undoubtedly faces tough competition from the likes of iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and Amazon Kindle, who are cashing-in on the brand value. However, power-packed with features and marketed aggressively at an affordable price-tag of $199, this device can surely click with the main-stream tablet buying audience.

The PhonePad Gen2 combines the benefits of a tablet, smartphone and a GPS into one single gadget. The device looks sleek, stylish and sturdy- very much like the Galaxy Tab 2.

The device flaunts an ARM Cortex- A5 based Qualcomm 7227 1 GHz processor, which provides superior performance for running 3D games, playing HD videos and enhanced web-browsing. It comes ported with 1 GB RAM, which allows you to multi-task flawlessly. The 7’’ inch multi-touch display, which is capable of recognizing up to 5 touches at a time, is super-sensitive and efficiently calibrated. The 800 x 480 display provides an ideal platform for watching movies, browsing the web and playing HD games. The text looks crisper, and the colors- more vivid and resplendent on the 7” display.
PhonePad Gen 2 is also an unlocked 3G smartphone. You can use it to make voice calls, send messages, check emails, and surf web on-the-go. To manage video calls, the device provides 2 MP HD front-facing and back facing webcam. Video calls can be made either through the network or using Skype, QQ, etc.
The device also comes with a built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The installed GPS receivers are independent of 3G/Wi-Fi, and hence, you can navigate using the tablet, even if you’re not connected to the internet.

uPlay’s PhonePad 2 comes powered by Android v 4.0.4, with an official Google Play Store. The device also supports Flash 10.1, which means you would be able to view YouTube videos from the stock browser itself. To provide convenience, the tablet comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office apps, which allow you to view and edit Word, Excel, PPT and PDF files.

The tablet comes with 4 GB of internal FLASH storage, with support for 32 GB expandable storage (micro SD). PhonePad 2’s 4200 mAh battery promises an uptime of 6-9 hours on a single charge, and more than a week of standby time. From the tablet standards, that’s par awesome.

PhonePad 2 surely cannot challenge the likes of iPad Mini or Galaxy Tab 2, but it can be an ideal replacement for those who cannot afford to break the bank to buy a sophisticated, high-end device.
