Windows Phone 8 is by far the best mobile operating system Microsoft has ever created. Nokia and HTC were the first to launch Windows Phone 8 devices. Nokia’s flagship Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 have been selling really well on AT&T.
If you have been tracking Windows Phone 8 from the beginning, Samsung was the first manufacturer to officially announce a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. Samsung ATIV S became the first officially announced Windows 8 smartphone on August, 2012. The device has not been launched yet, but it is considered to be one of the best Windows Phone devices when launched. It’s like Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X are the poster children, and when ATIV S is launched, it will be the third one. The launch date of ATIV S has been delayed several times before, and according to information received by SamMobile, Samsung will ship the ATIV S from week 52 (last week of the year) which means the ATIV S is delayed again.
In case you have already ordered your Samsung Windows Phone 8 smartphone, seems like you have to wait for few extra weeks than expected. The ATIV S could be delayed to begin January for Europe. According to the sources, the ATIV S makes use of the same display that is incorporated in Samsung’s Android flagship phone for 2012, the Samsung Galaxy SIII. As you know, Galaxy S3 is still selling really well months after the launch, in fact it is still considered as a hot product, and Samsung may be experiencing some production issues as the two devices share parts. Samsung could have decided to move back the ATIV S for public release because of production switch in build and materials. They may either choose to use alternative materials or ramp up the parts production capacity in order to meet the demands.
Few retailers like Expansys for example have already listed the device as available and shipping within 5 days, and Clove claims that the Ativ S is coming December 10th, so there is a high probability that the news is being referred to the wide availability of the product.
When ATIV S is officially launched, it will be the first Windows Phone 8 device to have a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display. Apart from the 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, the Samsung ATIV S will feature a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera and a choice of either 16 or 32GB of internal storage. The 8 megapixel camera is capable of shooting 1080p videos @30fps whereas a 1.9 Mega pixels secondary camera will be used for video calling purposes. The Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset has an integrated Adreno 225 GPU for graphics support and gaming, so that should be quite a performer when coupled with 1 gig of RAM.
Apart from ATIV S, we have Samsung ATIV Odyssey, which is basically equivalent to ATIV S in terms of hardware, except that ATIV Odyssey is a CDMA model whereas ATIV S is a GSM smartphone. What are your thoughts on this?
