Oppo Find 5 launch date revealed

Times have changed and people are looking for more and more screen real estate on their smartphones. Where there is demand, there is supply, and more and more manufacturers are joining the 5 incher bandwagon. Previously, we had Dell Streak, and then we got the Galaxy Note device from Samsung which made the segment very popular and the company managed to sell more than 10 million units of the device, and is planning to sell 3 times more units of the successor, Galaxy Note II.

Recently, we saw HTC launching the Droid DNA handset, which is a 5 inch device with 1080p display. It’s the first device in the US to have a 1080p display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which converts to a pixel density of 441 ppi. Yes, that’s pretty high and Sony will be soon joining the party with its Yuga and Odin, and even this duo will be equipped with 1080p display. China is experiencing similar situations in its own smartphone market, and one popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo, has finally revealed the launch date of its upcoming flagship device, Oppo Find 5.

Oppo is the same company which manufactures Oppo Finder, which is crowned as the world’s thinnest Android smartphone. Oppo Find 5 is scheduled to be launched in Beijing on 12.12.2012. That’s a very attractive date to launch a device, but despite scheduling the launch on that date and advertising the phone with a “fifth element” theme tied up to its name and screen’s diagonal size, fans have found the unveiling event to be not so appealing. One main reason for that is there have been many leaks in the past and we know almost everything about the device, including how it looks like, so it’s no secret.

Like HTC’s Droid DNA, even Oppo Find 5 is a 5-incher and features a 1080p display. The company has made last minute changes to the design and the device is now thicker than it was thought to be before. When the company announced its plans of the device, it was said that the Oppo Find 5 would be a record-breaking 6.65 thick, but now it looks like the device will be 8 or even 9mm thick. Everything else seems to be intact. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset and will be equivalent to the one found on LG Nexus 4 and the LG Optimus G, and there will be 2 gig of RAM which should suffice all the random access memory needs. The Oppo Find 5 will come with a 2,500 mAh battery and a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and will be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

The device may not be as thin as the Oppo Finder, but then it is definitely more powerful than Oppo Finder and has many cool features such as Qi Wireless Charging using which you can inductively charge the device, just like the Nexus 4. What are your thoughts on Oppo Find 5?
