Most phones that HTC have released over the last couple of months have all been global but more often than not kicked off in the North American market. This time round, a new dual-SIM phone has been launched and it is target a whole new market – the Asian market.
The HTC Desire SC is a dual-SIM phone with a dual core processor different from the Desire C and Desire X variations released awhile back although they share a number of characteristics. The phone spots a 4.3 inch Super LCD 2 touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and will be launched first in the Indian market for Rs 22,590 (approximately $420). The company has plans for a wider roll-out across Asia sometime this month and most likely in the European markets this or next month.
The Desire SV has very modest specs including a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 4 GB internal memory and just 768 MB of RAM. It also features a microSD card slot for memory expansion upto 32 GB and a rear 8 megapixels camera. Unfortunately, the camera is mainly intended for good still images as it cannot record high definition videos. Other major specs include Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and GPS capability and a 1620 mAh battery with Beats Audio sound enhancement. The operating system is not mentioned on the specs list but it is most likely to come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich just like the other two phones in the Desire family.
HTC says that there will be a single-SIM version of the Desire SV which will be 4G LTE capable. Should this phone come to the US market, then it is the single-SIM 4G phone that will make it here. Both the single-SIM and the dual-SIM phones have the same design and other features, it may therefore be difficult for a phone with just 768 MB of RAM and only 4 GB onboard memory to make a huge impact – even as a budget phone – in such a competitive market. This is probably the reason the phone targets the Asian and European markets where unlocked phones are most popular among consumers.
The Desire SV comes in black and orange and in all-black colors and seems to target hip youngsters.
