AT&T Samsung Rugby III slated for Dec. 14th release, features military-grade quality

Samsung Rugby III, a flip phone with military-grade quality, will soon be added to AT&T’s lineup of phones that feature its Enhanced Push to Talk (PTT) service. In a press release published today, AT&T said that Rugby 3’s release date is slated on December 14th and pre-orders start on today. Apparently, Samsung Rugby III is not for any typical cellphone users. The provider is targeting big businesses and corporations as the device enables users to communicate faster.

The flip phone features 2.4-inch display panel with QVGA resolution with 3-megapixel camera sensor. It has passed 810 G specifications (military specs) for its quality and build. Needless to say, it would not shatter if dropped accidentally. Samsung also made this device dust- and water-proof, so even if the user is submerged in the water, it can still be used. Organizations that might need to provide their employees with a faster and instant way communication can get Rugby III for free as long as they will sign a two-year contract with AT&T.

This is the fifth model of AT&T’s lineup of rugged devices that offer PTT, according to Jeff Bradley, senior vice president- Devices and Developer Services at AT&T.

“Fifth in our line of rugged devices from Samsung, the Rugby III joins the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro™ in AT&T’s current portfolio. Since it launches with Enhanced PTT, the Rugby III helps make communicating even easier than before so businesses can operate more efficiently and effectively,” Bradley said in a statement.

Samsung Rugby III comes with the following key features:

  • Larger contact lists and talk groups than competitive PTT solutions
  • Ability to combine PTT services and mobile applications, with help from AT&T’s team of mobility consulting and integration experts
  • Supervisory override and talk group scanning, features that were previously available only for two-way radio users
  • Sub-second call setup

Organizations can choose from two rate plans the provider offers:

  • $5 per month when added to existing AT&T voice and data plans, starting Dec. 6.
  • $30 per month for a PTT-only rate plan (no voice or non-PTT data included).

Both plans come with unlimited PTT. Anyone who wishes to own this device can get this for $99.99 starting December 14th. But then again, Samsung Rugby III is built and designed to cater AT&T’s PTT service. So, it might not be a perfect option for everybody but a few.
