Samsung Confirms Galaxy S3 Mini to be Announced Tomorrow

The head of mobile division for Samsung Electronics JK Shin yesterday confirmed that Galaxy S3 mini will be the company’s next device to be announced and it will not be marketed as an entry-level device as most people expected.  On a press conference held in Korea, the company boss announced that due to the high demand of the S3 in the European market, the company will be making an entry with the smaller version of the famed S3 smartphone.

This means that the Galaxy S3 mini will be in direct competition with iPhone 5 which was announced by apple late last month – but it acts as an alternative to the larger screen Galaxy S3.  The company had marketed the S3 as having a larger screen but it recognized users’ needs of a smaller more portable and easy to handle device, that is why they worked on the mini.

Earlier rumors indicated that Samsung had invested in larger screen devices in a bid to outdo competition because in the age we live in, people view larger screen devices as more powerful, easier to use and have more functionalities such as reading e-books, better browsing and playing games better.

The increasing demand for 4 inch screen smartphones in Europe may have spurred the company into developing the smaller version of the S3 and it appears that the company will focus a lot on the European market when marketing the S3 mini.  Given the market dynamicity which has seen the introduction and the popularity of 10 inch tablets, 7 inch tablets and 5 inch phablets, the demand for 4 inch tablets rather than 4.5 or 4.7 inch tablets could have been a disadvantage to the company.  The new smaller version of the S3 though is a chance for Samsung to promote a powerful device without locking out consumers seeking devices with smaller screens.

There are no official detailed specs of the Galaxy S3 mini as of now but it is expected that it will sport a 1 GHz U8420 dual core processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB onboard storage (with a microSD card slot), a 5 megapixels rear camera and a 1,500 mAh battery.  It is also likely that the phone will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-loaded and the screen will have a resolution of 800 X 480 pixels.

It is just a couple of hours before Samsung announces the S3 mini officially, so we just have to wait and see whether Sammy will excite or disappoint us.
