Nexus 7 Ubuntu Installer app released

If you have a Nexus 7 Google tablet and just love Ubuntu as one of the best operating systems (like me), then you are going to love this. Now there is a very legal and an easy method to install Ubuntu on your device. The company has released Ubuntu Nexus 7 Installer app which will take you through the steps of installing the operating system on your Nexus 7 tablet.

The installation procedure is one of the very easiest procedures there are, compared to installing an Android ROM itself. And as usual, there are chances of bricking your Nexus 7 tablet as well. So if you are trying to install the operating system, you are doing so at your own risk.

Once you install Ubuntu on your Nexus 7 tablet, it will be a replica of the desktop version of the operating system. There is stripped down version of the operating system for tablets. So if you love the Unity interface on your desktop, you are sure to love it on your tablet as well, which has a touch interface, making it easy to use the side bar with all the shortcuts.

But the operating system is not completely polished yet. So it is hard to use the operating system as a daily driver on your Nexus 7 tablet. If you are looking for that, you will probably have to wait for a few more days.

To install, you just have to run to the bootloader of your tablet, connect it to your computer running Ubuntu, open the Ubuntu for Nexus 7 installer app, and follow the instructions. And if your bootloader is locked, you will have to first back up all the data you have on your SD card, as the bootloader unlocking process erases your SD card data. So take care of that.

Now, if you are interested, you can check out the complete installation instructions over here. But before that, have a look at the known issues and then decide if you want to install it or not.
