Google’s The Playground is Open event is only a few days away now, and we have already been seeing the Google Play Store ax the 8GB model of the Nexus 7 tablet. With that said, there is a lot of proof behind the idea of a 32GB Nexus 7 device coming down the pipeline, and the removal of the 8GB model only proves to help confirm said proof. Also in the pipeline is a Nexus 7 with capabilities of 3G cellular data, which has apparently encouraged a few retailers in the United Kingdom to guess that these devices will be announced next Monday when the event takes place in New York City. In anticipation of the event, these retailers have decided to slash the pricing on the 16GB model of the Nexus 7. Sounds like a good time to start stocking up for the holiday seasons folks.
Currys has reduced their pricing on the tablet to £189.99 ($302 USD) while another retail chain known as Comet has cut their prices on the tablet down to a mere £179.99 ($287 USD). These price cuts are definitely good news for those who are looking for a bargain, but they might also hint at the rumors and evidence of the upcoming Nexus tablets being extremely true. Thus far we’ve only heard rumors, and very convincing rumors at that, and this only assures us more that we will indeed be seeing new Nexus tablets when this Playground event unveils them. Before the prices had been slashed, the 16GB Nexus 7 was selling regularly at £199.99 ($319 USD). Before the 8GB Nexus 7 was axed off of the Google Play Store, the tablet had been selling for a mere £159.99 ($255 USD). That said, the 16GB Nexus 7 appears to be headed towards that price range.
This is literally probably the best time to start shopping for gifts this year in the realm of technology, or more specifically, tablets. As we get closer to the holidays and the release of more and more tablets, prices are going to be slashed quite often, as you would probably expect.
The Nexus 7 boasts of a 1.2GHz quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 7″ 1280×800 display set at 216ppi, a back-lit IPS display and a 4325 mAh battery. The tablet is running the latest version of Android, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a 1.2 mega pixel front facing camera. If you are looking to purchase one of these bad boys, go on right ahead, but it might be very much worth waiting a few days until we see what Google has to offer in New York City at their Playground event. Whether it be a 3G Nexus 7 or a 32GB Nexus 7 (or even both!) that might be something worth waiting for. And hey, maybe Google has a surprise in store for its loyal fans as well!
