The rumors of the next Nexus device being from LG (an LG Optimus to be precise) just keep coming and coming as they have been for the last couple of weeks. We can now safely say that this is true, we can sit back and be sure that we will see the first LG Nexus smartphone ever probably this winter.
The newest leaks courtesy of CNET are that the phone will be a modified Optimus G phone. It is rumored that Google and LG are planning to announce the new smartphone towards the end of next month although there haven’t been any press invites yet. Rumor yesterday went round that the LG Nexus smartphone would be released in mid-November, making this month the most likely announcement time.
It is emerging that LG may be the only company to release a Nexus device anytime soon, at least for this month. Different sources have hinted that different manufacturers will be working on a Nexus device including Sony and another from Samsung but if they indeed come, it is unlikely that it will be this year. For now, we can look closely at the detailed specs and features of the Optimus Nexus.
What significance does the Nexus play in LG’s circles?
The success of the first Nexus device, the Galaxy Nexus, opened a whole new chapter in the smartphone industry. Google benefited a lot financially and in name, and Samsung cashed in on the fame and popularity. LG is the next on line and as the rumors become more and more realistic, it is clear that there is a lot in store for the manufacturer.
The timing is just right for Google given that the previous Nexus device was released about this time last year and it is probably time a new edition was released to keep the name fresh and alive. It is also important for Google that their flagship device keeps the Android platform vibrant with Nexus devices from different manufacturers. The Optimus G is official and it is set to bring a ton of features, particularly on Android operating system, especially now that Google is setting the standard for Android smartphones (and tablets).
LG Optimus Nexus Specs
We cannot be sure about the specs of the Optimus Nexus smartphone for now, but we can conclusively speculate that it will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC which most Optimus smartphones have been coming with. Rumor has it that the Nexus smartphone will sport a 1.5 GHz quad-core Krait processor with Adreno 320 GPU. It is most likely to come with a 2GB RAM capability to handle multiple processes at the same time and the high graphics games now available on the play store.
The phone features a 4.7 inch True HD IPS+ display with a 1280 x 768 pixels resolution (320 pixels per inch density), a 2100 mAh battery and a 13 MP rear camera.
What of Android 4.2 OS?
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is Android newest operating system. Many manufacturers are still trying to upgrade their devices to this new system. Rumor has it that the next version of Android OS is most likely to come with the next nexus device. Could Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie come with Optimus Nexus? We do not know but if it does, it sure will come with a ton of benefits to the users including a new user interface. This is unlikely but there is no harm in hoping.
