Kindle Fire HD sales increase after iPad Mini was announced

Apple announced the smaller 7.9 inch iPad Mini a few days back, and the tablet went on pre order starting today morning. The mini tablet is selling like hot cake, for sure, but how are other popular tablets in the same space doing? You would think that since the big player in the overall tablet market is in the 7 inch tablet market now, the popular 7 inch tablets such as the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD would see dropping sales figures. But you are not anywhere close to the fact.

Amazon has reported that the sales of its $199 Kindle Fire HD recorded an all time high the day after the iPad Mini was announced. What does this mean? This means that budget conscious customers have been waiting to see what the Cupertino tech giant would offer. Now that they know that the tablet is priced a lot higher than its competitors, the lot selected the cheaper alternative.

The cheapest iPad Mini has a price tag of $329, and for that much, you get a 16 GB Wi Fi only model of the tablet. But for just $199, you get almost the same thing, with some good and bad features. For example, the $199 Kindle Fire HD is the one with special offers, which means you get ads on your tablet all the time. This is not the case with the iPad Mini. Also, the iPad Mini has a slightly bigger 7.9 inch display compared to the a tad smaller 7 inch display on the Kindle Fire HD. But on the Kindle Fire HD, you get a high definition display, whereas the iPad Mini offers only a standard definition display with a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels.

All Things D has asked Amazon about the sales of the Kindle Fire HD tablet after the announcement of the iPad Mini. And in response to this, Amazon spokesperson Drew Herdener, said in an email to the online publication:

“Wednesday was the $199 Kindle Fire HD’s biggest day of sales since launch and up 3x week over week.”

But we cannot entirely predict the future of these two tablets. Only time will tell the story.
