It was said that Google will be launching three new devices namely, Samsung Nexus 10, LG Nexus 4 and an updated Nexus 7 32 gig version tablet on Monday (October 29th), however the latest update is that the event has been canceled and the reason to that is the Hurricane Sandy.
This is what folks at Google said officially in an email:
“We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more.”
The Hurricane Sandy is described by the New York Post as a “nor’easter on Steroids,”. Speaking of Hurricane Sandy itself, this hurricane is closing in on the United States. A massive but slow-moving storm, with tropical storm-force winds extending across 650 miles is approaching and according to various forecasters, the flood caused by Sandy may span multiple tides with a storm surge of 4 to 8 feet in Long Island Sound.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency on Saturday afternoon as the Category 1 Hurricane Sandy loomed off the eastern seaboard.
The Bay State will feel the hurricane’s effects as early as Sunday evening and storm forces will peak Monday afternoon, said National Weather Service meteorologist Kim Buttrick this afternoon.
Hurricane Sandy’s center is aimed to hit the southern New Jersey coast first during the day Sunday, but the storm’s wide girth means Massachusetts residents will still bear some of the brunt of the storm’s force, she said.’
“Hurricane or not, whatever it is when it hits us, it’s going to be a storm of great impact and magnitude,” Buttrick said.
Hurricane of this magnitude is not a thing to be ignored and the biggest impact is expected on Monday into Tuesday, and that falls exactly in line with when Google’s event is going to take place.
There’s no word on when and where the event has been rescheduled to, but it’s not happening on October 29th and that’s confirmed. They could have confirmed this earlier because electricity is going to be knocked down and nobody would risk hosting an event without electricity. Besides, travelling to the event venue itself could be risky and threat to life.
It’s not the first time an event by Google is being postponed. Earlier in October last year, Google postponed an event it was supposed to hold with Samsung on October 11th in San Diego, however, the event was postponed and moved out of the country and was held in Hong Kong few days later. The event launched the Samsung Nexus Prime and then the latest edition of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. According to rumors, the event was postponed out of respect for Steve Jobs passing, whereas others claimed that announcement was in connection to avoid patent lawsuits. Nevertheless, this will be the 2nd year where Google is rescheduling their event, though the Monday’s event is being postponed due to natural reasons which can’t be overlooked.
We will keep a close eye on further developments. Stay tuned.
