Hardcore Android fans, here’s one for you.
A website called Cubify has created an online app called Cubify Bugdroids that allows Android users to design their own robot figurine. Users are provided with plenty of customization options on Cubify Bugdroids’ drag-and-drop interface. With the 3D green robot as their base, users can add accessories like hats, bowties, badges, and neckties, and costume elements like hammers, axes, and drills. There are also options to put shapes like hearts, lightning bolts, stars, moons, and hourglasses or basic geometric three-dimensional figures. They can also change the color of each design component into a bold, pastel, or retro color. If that’s not enough, stamps of rainbows, kiss marks, necklaces, eyeglasses, and dog tags are available, as well. Clicking and dragging on the figure will allow users to view it from various angles.
What is more, interesting, however, is that after users design their robot, they can choose an option called Make It Real. This directs the Cubify team to create a 3D printout of the custom design. The price of the toy varies, depending on how tall it is. It costs $29.99 for a 2.5-inch model; $34.99, for a 3-inch model; and $39.99 for a 3.5-inch model. Cubify will then send the figurine to one’s doorstep.
Meanwhile, those who want a fully-functional Bugdroid robot that can be controlled using a smartphone may want to read about the BERO Kickstarter project. BERO, which stands for BE the RObot, is a project that is unaffiliated with Cubify which is expected to come with features like an SD card slot, speakers, and Bluetooth connectivity. Users will also be able to program the robot via the Arduino platform. Its Kickstarter project has already successfully reached its goal of $38,900 from 34 backers.
Meanwhile, Cubify is also offering other apps that let users create other 3D toys. Likewise, they are selling 3D printers for those who want to start a business or print 3D objects at home.
