Google’s Nexus 7 tablet is a little restricted with only two storage variants available. While 16GB is sufficient for most heavy users, it’s not a great deal of storage to have. It seems like Google has understood that pretty well as a leaked screenshot from the inventory of Carphone Warehouse shows a 32GB version of the tablet. This pretty much reveals the existence of the tablet to the world.
Google’s system eats up 2.5GB of storage, so 8GB users are left with 5.5GB of space to play with while 16GB users don’t get the full allotted storage either. So a 32GB Nexus 7 makes a whole lot of sense, especially since Amazon and Barnes & Noble have their tablets in the same storage variants. The screenshot’s authenticity still hangs in a balance, but we should know more in a few weeks from now, when it is expected of Google to take the wraps off the new Nexus smartphone.
Speaking of the Nexus smartphone, there is a mention of the Samsung Nexus 2 in the screenshot as well which could be strongly indicative of the upcoming Nexus. However, since it is mentioned as the Samsung Nexus 2, it could well be the Galaxy Nexus which is the second Nexus smartphone by Samsung after the Nexus S. So take that with a pinch of salt. It’s hard to take this seriously also because LG seems to be the front runner to launch the next Nexus smartphone, so we will wait until there is something substantial on that. We’ve seen plenty of rumors stating that the next Nexus will be manufactured by five different OEMs to cater their markets respectively. This, while makes a lot of sense, is very unlikely to happen as it would potentially confuse the buyers. But we’ll never know what surprises Google has for us.
As for the 32GB Nexus 7, it seems pretty legit. The only thing holding the Nexus 7 back is its internal storage with the tablet performing exceedingly well in all other departments. ASUS revealed the existence of the Nexus 7 a few weeks before it originally released back in June, so we can take this as a sort of a confirmation too. We can speculate that the 32GB Nexus 7 could cost somewhere around $299 considering how the 8 and 16GB variants are priced. People who bought the Nexus 7 recently might not take a liking to this news. That being said, it’s still not confirmed if the device will ever make its way to the market. So let’s treat this as a rumor for now. Do you think Google should have made this variant available along with the 8 and 16GB models back in July? Let us know by dropping a line below.
