The LG Optimus Vu 2 is now official after weeks of rumors and leaks. It has been barely 6 months since the original LG Vu was made available in Korea yet LG has gone ahead to release a successor with much better specifications compared to the original – it could easily be mistaken for an entirely new device if it wasn’t for the name.
Although Vu 2 comes with the same 4:3 aspect ratio 5 inch display, it has a completely new home button on the front of the device. It also sports a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm S4 processor, 2 GB RAM, a 2,150 mAh batter (slightly larger than the original), an 8 MP rear and 1.3 MP front camera and comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. This is very disappointing for LG fans who anticipated that the device would come with Android Jelly Bean out of the box. There had been a rumor that it would come with Jelly bean but I guess LG will make plans to update it to the latest Android version soon.
The Vu 2 is laden with features – some which were not included in the original Vu. The most notable features include NFC (Near Field Communication), IR Blaster with a matching QRemote application which makes the device a universal smart remote controller and VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capability. There is also a handy ‘One Key’ accessory which when pressed helps the user find the phone when it is misplaced.
LG Optimus Vu 2 was launched in South Korea, the home country of LG and will be retailing for about $864 without contracts and is available in black, pink and white for now. LG have not shown any indications whether the Vu 2 will be marketed globally or in the least American and European markets but judging by its capabilities, they probably follow up this launch with launches in various markets including the US and Europe.
It is not every day that we see something different launched by a manufacturer for the Android market, but today we have seen a new phablet or smartphone, whatever you prefer, with a 4:3 screen aspect ratio. What do you think about the aspect ratio and the device in general? This device offers better usage for document processing and typing thanks to its wider (but shorter L) screen and I would recommend to someone based on the specs.
