Are you ready for another budget e-reader that is even cheaper than the Amazon Kindle Fire of the Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet? Here comes the Gardner GoTab Hive Reader which retails for only £59 or around US$96.
Using a feature called Hive Reader Technology, they can save eBooks in the ePub or PDF formats as well as use those that they purchased from Adobe Digital Editions, except those that have the Kindle Format. The e-reader also has a pre-loaded Hive app, which comes with a “Buy Locally Online” feature that allows them to purchase from local bookstores in Britain.
The e-reader boasts of going beyond the regular e-reader and offering users with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System and a high resolution display. The latter, called a Crystal Color Display, measures 6 inches, comes with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, a pixel density of 155PPI, and an aspect ratio of 16:9. Thanks to a G-Sensor, it automatically rotates from landscape to portrait and provides comfort in reading through LED backlighting. The same display is a capacitive touchscreen with support for 5-point multi-touch gestures and an optional capacitive stylus that does not come bundled with the device.
The e-reader is powered by a 1GHz ARM CPU working in tandem with the GPU Mali 400 graphics chip. It has 512MB RAM DDR3 and 4GB of storage capacity, which may be expanded via a microSD card slot for up to 32GB if users feel that the onboard storage is inadequate. A VGA camera on its front allows users to engage in video chat while using its 3.5mm headphones jack or its built-in speakers. Users may access the Internet through Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. It draws its energy from a rechargeable Lithium Polymer Battery with a capacity of 2,000mAH that offers 4 hours of browsing, 20 hours of audio playback with the screen turned off, and up to 80 hours of standby time.
Given these specifications, the Gardner GoTab Hive Reader seems best suited for light readers because of its processor, battery, and storage capacity.
