The Archos 101 XS Tablet is now available for ordering on the Archos online store for the price of 379.99 Euros or 299.99 UK pounds. For such price, users will get not only the tablet but a magnetic coverboard, as well.
The coverboard is one of the main features of this tablet. It may be used to cover the screen when the tablet is not in use, protecting it from scratches, dust, or spills. Sliding the cover, however, gives users access to a chiclet keyboard which lets users type easily on the device without compromising screen space. The coverboard may also be used as a stand to keep the tablet and the keyboard stable on a flat surface. The coverboard gets its power from the tablet since it does not have batteries of its own. To permit users to work longer, however, they can plug in the coverboard so that it may charge while they work.
Archos is providing French users with a keyboard with an AZERTY layout while those in Germany will be getting one with a QWERTZ layout. All other users will have the QWERTY keyboard layout.
As for its other specifications, the Archos 101 XS comes with a 1.5GHz ARM TI OMAP 4470 Cortex-A9 dual-core processor,16GB of storage, and 1GB of RAM. It has a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels that carries support for 3D games. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi. Archos also provides a mini HDMI port, micro USB port, and a microSDXC card slot. It has a single camera with a 720p sensor.
The tablet comes pre-installed with the OfficeSuite Pro 6, which is valued at $14.99. This application enables users to open and edit Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files. PDF files may also be viewed on the application.
The tablet’s dimensions are 10.7 x 6.7 x 0.31 inches whereas the coverboard measures 10.7 x 6.7 x 0.2 inches. Together, the tablet and the coverboard measure 0.51 inch thick.
Currently, the tablet comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but Archos is expected to roll out an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update later.
