If you read or hear on the news something about Apple employees attending an event somewhere as a team, that is a shock, because nothing like that has ever happened. But recently, the Cupertino tech giant flew the entire Apple design team to London to receive a couple of prestigious awards.
Yes, the entire team was present at the D&AD (British Design & Art Direction) dinner at Evolution in Battersea Park a few days back as a team. The team consisted of 14 men and two women, who reportedly took the stage together to receive the two prestigious awards the company was awarded with. The decision to bring the entire team to the UK is described as a rare moment of public unity by The Next Web.
The D&AD event was organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary. And as a celebration, awards across various categories were presented to various companies. But Apple was the centre of attention for the evening. Tech Spot writes:
Cupertino received two awards during the event: one for being the best brand and the other for having the best design studio of the last 50 years. Needless to say, the D&AD certainly thinks highly of Apple. Names of everyone in attendance weren’t mentioned but we do know that 14 men and two women took the stage, including Apple’s senior vice president of industrial design Jony Ive. Ive reportedly received a standing ovation at the ceremony.
It is very surprising that the Cupertino tech giant flew the whole team out of the head quarters the same week the iPhone 5 is being released in the stores. Something like this would not have happened under the guidance of Steve Jobs. But I guess this will become more common under Tim Cook. Do you think Apple needs this kind of public attention?
