Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 Coming in October

As Microsoft readies for the grand release of its newest operating system, Windows 8, so is Lenovo. Recent reports suggest that the Chinese multinational IT company is preparing to release ThinkPad Tablet 2 in October. The device will operate on Windows 8 Pro and has reasonable specs enough to please any tech enthusiast.

Ever since rumors about Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 emerged, we knew it would come with Intel Atom processor and it has never been denied by Lenovo itself. While the specs have already been revealed, information about the processor wasn’t disclosed yet.

The slate will be sporting 10.1 inches IPS display offering a resolution as high as 1366 x 768 pixels with an optional digitizer/pen. It will have two cameras; the primary gets 8 megapixels while the secondary has 2MP only.

There is no information as to the random access memory (RAM) of this device but based on Windows 8 Developer Preview, at least 2GB RAM is needed for 64-bit systems. Having 1GB may not be an option here because ThinkPad Tablet 2 will be running Windows 8 Pro. Tablet-optimized Windows 8 and Windows RT may be able to run smoothly on devices with a single GB of RAM but since Lenovo is targeting business users, it has to use the professional version of Windows 8.

Windows 8 Pro has features dedicated for enterprise and corporate users such as Active Directory, SD card encryption, device management tools, and fingerprint reader. The keyboard dock, albeit optional, is evidence that the company doesn’t just want to offer feature-packed tablet but also a better alternative for laptops.

While it is being referred to as the second generation ThinkPad Tablet, it is totally different from the first Android-based version. Since it will run an OS packed with features, there is a need for better and higher specs. Basically, ThinkPad Tablet 2 is more powerful than the first version.

There is no information about the pricing of this tablet yet but it is expected to be released in the last week of October considering the official launch of Windows 8 OS is on October 26th. It is believed to compete with Microsoft Surface or any other business-oriented tablets.
