Will the Upcoming ZTE Gaming Phone Slay Xperia Play?

ZTE is a Chinese manufacturer that announced on July 12 that it would soon be releasing a Gaming Phone that will have no rival all over the world. However, the company did not mention any further details about their upcoming phone as this news was shared on the company’s Twitter account. However, it did mention that further details would be released in 6 days. So, all we have to do is wait for July 18th for any updates from ZTE and its latest gaming phone.

The interesting part about their announcement is that, according to ZTE, this new gaming phone will be “one of the most advanced gaming smart phones on the planet.” This is the part of their announcement, which created all the hype for this upcoming gaming phone and excitement among people.

For now, ZTE has not revealed whether it is launching a new device that was kept under the wraps until now, or whether it is updating one of its previously announced smart phones to bring about the new turn in mobile gaming.

ZTE previously announced a Quad Core ZTE Era, which has all the capabilities of becoming the world’s greatest gaming phone. If ZTE decides to go with ZTE Era, then its claim of launching the best gaming phone might be true because ZTE Era comes with an Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad Core processor with a power of 1.3 GHz, a ULP GeForce GPU, and 1 GB of RAM might be enough for ZTE to pull this trick. The ZTE Era runs on Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

However, earlier this year, ZTE chief revealed that ZTE is currently working on an ARM Cortex-A15 powered phone called the “Athena.” We can assume that this might be another possible candidate to becoming the world’s best gaming phone and with that; it will also be the first A15 powered device to hit the markets.

The ZTE Athena is mere 6.2mm thick, which is making it the potential candidate for the world’s thinnest smart phone. However, its slim design is not the only impressive thing ZTE did with this smart phone because as far as the insides goes, ZTE did a pretty impressive job there as well. The ZTE Athena is going to be powered by an ARM Cortex-A15 processor and those who do not know what it is, well the most powerful current handsets these days are running on ARM Cortex-A9. So, you can see why the A15 processor will be something to look out for because it will be clearly leaps ahead of A9 and any other processor that somewhat matches the processing of A9.

Moreover, the Athena will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Moreover, it will have a 720p sharp display and a massive 64GB internal storage capacity. According to the head of handset strategy, this handset will be available in a variety of colours.

The upcoming ZTE gaming phone could pose a threat to Xperia Play and other gaming phones available these days. However, how much of a threat will it poses, is something we will just have to wait and see for ourselves.
